Pencils and I presume inks as well by :iconfwatanabe:

This is the first time I've ever painted clouds just following the ink outlines and not used a photo template of some cloud shot underneath to help out (mainly coz I didn't have one that suited... :) ) Mucked around for ages deciding on the tinting of them. Also the first time I've ever done a plane of any sort.

Heh, your story and mine are so similar. Right before touching the jets, I was so apprehensive because I've never done one before either. And I was scouring for cloud references to find something that suited, and again came out completely blank, so I also spent forever just getting a scheme/painting method that worked. I think yours has turned out absolutely brilliantly, and works so well as a polar opposite scheme to my own version. The bright definitive lighting coupled with those awesome clouds really allows this image to leap off the page and give a strong sense of depth and strength to Comrade Hero.

Absolutely awesome colouring man. The lighting is really well done. His leather gloves look so real with all that shine and light on them. Great work.
