I've discoverd that the problem with colouring a Jay Anacleto ('Dejah Thoris' and 'Shanna' in my gallery here) style of picture is that it's hard to get back into colouring the more normal kind of comic lineart. The colouring style is similar but the way you handle layers and layer modes especially is quite different. The same thing happened when I coloured the Shanna picture earlier and it's happened again with the Dejah Thoris one now.

So, coloured this one mostly just to get back into the groove and I totally copied

's colour scheme and overall style for the picture in doing so but, what the hey...

Is it because of the high use of blacks for this one and the tonal work of the pencils on the Dejah and Shanna pic? Awesome colors as usual!!!

on the dejah thoris pic you have a fully tonal picture - lots of pencilled greys. You have to somehow blend and reduce the impact of those on the colours. It means doing a lot of layers above the lineart in screen, soft light or overlay mode
