in this case the orange spotlight and assorted flares of light were done with a gradient of orange to transparent layer on top of the lineart layer set to 'hard light' and then another 'screen' layer on top of that of a pale yellow.

The sunbeams were done in much the same way with a heck of a lot of smudging and dragging.

Don't be afraid to use as many layers as you need to , to get an effect right...

Honestly this is alot better than your previous work, you seem to be understanding lighting and shading alot better, it doesn't look like a copy of anything.
